Service above self

Imagine yourself as a tree. Storms that naturally occur may break away dead and weak branches that are using your resources but not capable of producing fruit. The storms we experience in our lives are similar. They are not meant to destroy us, but to reveal to us the things that are inhibiting our ability to achieve the goals or levels of success we know we are capable of. After a storm, there is the opportunity for growth and expansion into new areas of achievement and success.”

Our Club Areas of Focus

PeacEbuilding and conflict prevention

Rotary encourages conversations to foster understanding within and across cultures. We train adults and young leaders to prevent and mediate conflict and help refugees who have fled dangerous areas.

Disease prevention and treatment

We educate and equip communities to stop the spread of life-threatening diseases like polio, HIV/AIDS, and malaria. We improve and expand access to low-cost and free health care in developing areas.

Water, sanitation, and hygiene

We support local solutions to bring clean water, sanitation, and hygiene to more people every day. We don’t just build wells and walk away. We share our expertise with community leaders and educators to make sure our projects succeed long-term.

Maternal and child health

Nearly 6 million children under the age of five die each year because of malnutrition, poor health care, and inadequate sanitation. We expand access to quality care, so mothers and their children can live and grow stronger.

Basic education and literacy

More than 775 million people over the age of 15 are illiterate. Our goal is to strengthen the capacity of communities to support basic education and literacy, reduce gender disparity in education, and increase adult literacy.

Community economic development

We carry out service projects that enhance economic and community development and create opportunities for decent and productive work for young and old. We also strengthen local entrepreneurs and community leaders, particularly women, in impoverished communities.

Environment

Rotary members are tackling environmental issues the way they always do: coming up with projects, using their connections to change policy and planning for the future.

Helping Babies Breathe

Health Care Sierra Leone (HCSLUSA) is proud to announce the arrival of its dedicated
medical team in Freetown for the 2024 medical mission. This mission aims to contribute significantly to the
improvement of healthcare delivery in Sierra Leone as well as support this nation’s effort to reduce infant
mortality through its Rotary International-sponsored Helping Babies Breathe training program.

Featured Initiatives

Help us create lasting change

Solving some of the world’s most complex and pressing problems takes real commitment and vision. Rotary members believe that we share a responsibility to take action to improve our communities. Join us, so that we can make an even bigger impact – together.

Our Top Priorities

Rotary is dedicated to causes that build international relationships, improve lives, and create a better world to support our peace efforts and end polio forever.

Environment

Rotary shares an interest in protecting our common legacy: the environment.

Disease prevention and treatment

We believe good health care is everyone’s right. Yet 400 million people in the world can’t afford or don’t have access to basic health care.

Maternal and child health

Rotary makes high-quality health care available to vulnerable mothers and children so they can live longer and grow stronger.

Basic education and literacy

More than 775 million people over the age of 15 are illiterate. That’s 17 percent of the world’s adult population.

Community economic development

Nearly 800 million people live on less than $1.90 a day. Rotary members are passionate about providing sustainable solutions to poverty.

Peacebuilding and conflict prevention

Today, over 70 million people are displaced as a result of conflict, violence, persecution, and human rights violations. Half of them are children.

Water, sanitation, and hygiene

Clean water, sanitation, and hygiene education are basic necessities for a healthy environment and a productive life.
